Tereza Ondrová

Tereza is a dancer, co-founder of the company, and one half of a duo in artistic co-leadership that brings together a team from various disciplines and fields.

After earning a degree in dance pedagogy from the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU), Tereza co-founded the VerTeDance association in 2004. Under this platform, she has produced over 20 dance productions. Over the years, VerTedance has collaborated with numerous renowned Czech and international figures from the dance scene and has received a wide range of awards and accolades. Notable productions include Tichomluva (Dance Discovery Award, 2005), What is the Weight of Your Desire? – in collaboration with Petra Tejnorová (Dance Production of the Year, 2012), and Correction – with Jiří Havelka (Dance Production of the Year, 2014; Herald Angel Award, 2015; Audience Award at BE Festival, 2015; MESS Festival Award, 2015; Total Theatre Award Nomination, 2015). Her solo performance in The Cases of Dr. Touret – Mrs. Vltavská – earned her the title Dancer of the Year in 2010.

Since 2012, she has collaborated with Petr Šavel, creating two acclaimed duets. The first, Boys Who Like to Play with Dolls, received several international recognitions, including a Total Theatre Award Nomination, the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award (2015), inclusion on the Aerowaves Priority Companies List (2014), and nominations for both Dance Production of the Year and Dancer of the Year in 2014. Their second duet, As Long as Holding Hands, premiered at the prestigious Tanec Praha Festival in 2015.

From 2016 onwards, Tereza began an ongoing collaboration with film and theatre director Petra Tejnorová. Together, they developed a series of dance and interdisciplinary projects, including You Are Here (2016) – winner of the Audience Award at the Czech Dance Platform 2017 and a nominee for Production of the Year 2017 – Nothing Sad (2017), and Let’s Go to Dance (2017). Their partnership also led to the creation of the unconventional documentary film Hello, Is Anyone There? (2017), which premiered at Tanec Praha and explored the world – not only the dance world – through the eyes of children. As a dancer and performer, Tereza has collaborated with a number of international choreographers, such as Charlotte Öfverholm (Found and Lost, 2011), Karine Ponties (Same Same, 2018), David Zambrano (Ceviche, 2015), Anton Ľahký (Heaven is the Place, 2006), and Renan Martins de Oliveira (Replay, 2017). In addition to performing and her own authorial choreographic work, Tereza is also involved in dance pedagogy. Between 2018 and 2021, she became part of the European project Dancing Museums (www.dancingmuseums.com), in collaboration with Tanec Praha and the Prague City Gallery.
